Household Data Model & Restriction Rule Usage

October 6, 2024 Uncategorized
Household Data Model & Restriction Rule Usage
  • Problem Statement: Universal Properties, a global apartment management company, is onboarding tenants to a new portal. Tenants need to view their own contracts and those associated with their household, raising questions about how to model relationships between individuals and groups in Salesforce.
  • Salesforce Security Model and Data Model Considerations: The presentation explores standard Salesforce objects and relationships, highlighting the lack of native Account-Account or Contact-Contact relationships. It also discusses OWDs (Organization-Wide Defaults) for Accounts and Contracts, emphasizing their interconnectedness.
  • Household Accounts and Contracts: The concept of a “Household Account” is introduced, which is a standard Business Account associated with Person Accounts (representing tenants) via Account-Contact Relationships. Different contract types (Person Contract and Household Contract) are discussed.
  • Requirements and Sharing Sets: The key requirement is enabling users to see their own contracts and those associated with their household. Sharing Sets are explained as the mechanism for granting access to Customer Community users.
  • Account-Contact Relationships (ACR): ACRs are explored in detail, including setup steps and their importance for sharing. The presentation covers scenarios involving Person Accounts and Business Accounts, as well as indirect relationships between Person Accounts.
  • Opportunities, Reporting, and Other Objects: Relating Person Accounts to Opportunities using Contact Roles is discussed. The presentation also covers creating custom report types for Account Contact Relationships and potential security risks when relating Person Accounts to each other.
  • Restriction Rules: The presentation introduces Restriction Rules, their limitations, and supported objects. It analyzes whether Restriction Rules are effective in the Household Model and discusses a positive use case for showing only activated contracts.
  • Conclusion: The presentation concludes with a “Thank You” slide and contact information for the presenter. It encourages staying tuned for future topics and suggests areas of interest.
